A façade in a rainy zone: where efflorescence comes from and how to stop it

White staining and damp walls do not appear by accident. Almost always the cause is water that stays on the façade or keeps reaching the plinth — and it is stopped by details, not by detergent.

A rainy climate shows very quickly how well a façade material was chosen and how carefully the details were built. If water sits on the walls, works into the joints or keeps reaching the plinth, the façade starts to darken and to show run marks, stains and efflorescence.
